Visit the waterfall that has inspired many a writer over the years. Translated as ‘Black Falls’ in English because of its’ dark rock, Rhaeadr Ddu is one of Snowdonia’s real gems. If you love your solo adventures, you’ll never truly be alone around here as you’ll have ancient trees for company as you make your way through the beautiful patch of woodlands. It’s certainly a place to allow your imagination to run wild.

Rumour has it, there is still gold somewhere in the area too!

Carry on your hike through the ancient woodland and you’ll be transported back in time when you visit the old mines which provide spectacular panoramic views of south Snowdonia.

A fairly short hike but not to be underestimated. You’ll reach a height of around 400m amsl and there are parts of the walk which will mean that you’ll break a sweat. This is one of my favourite hikes for photography opportunities and the waterfall is very impressive, especially around autumn time.
