Montgomery canal, Welshpool | mid Wales Photography
Here is just a very small collection of my photographs from the ever beautiful stretch of Montgomery Canal that runs from Frankton Junction to Newtown in mid Wales, via my hometown of Welshpool.
I’ve been lucky enough to have photographed this stretch throughout every season now, catching sunrises, sunsets, snowfall, ice and any other conditions that you can think of. There’s a part of me that sometimes feels as though I have exhausted every photographic angle possible and then all of a sudden, my eyes will be drawn to something else. This stretch of canal really is the gift that keeps on giving and has played a huge part in keeping me sane since the lockdowns began here in 2020.
At one point, last spring, on the day that first lockdown was announced and I was furloughed from my full time job, I made it my mission to follow a couple of swans from the date of their nesting, through to the moment that the new born cygnets took their first steps into the water. I have shared some of the photographs down below.
This is another of the locations that I can offer in my one to one photography tuition services. There are plenty of little walks that I know of that can take us along the towpath and form part of a circular walk around the Welshpool area, even including parts of the Powis Castle grounds if you wish.
